About the Books

Casual Now

AMY: I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve, determined to find love and have fun along the way. My last breakup, though, left my heart in shambles and I decided it’s not worth it to get heartbroken again. So I’ll approach my future relationships with a casual outlook. If I keep things light, I can’t get hurt, right? I plan on guarding my anxious heart moving forward. That is, until I meet Jackson “JJ” Jeffers, the gorgeous starting shortstop for the Chicago Foxes and my new neighbor. He might try to sweep me off my feet, but I can resist his charms, because deep down, who really wants more than casual now anyway?

JJ: The moment I laid eyes on Amy Stone, I was impressed, and after my last relationship–my disaster of an engagement–I’m not used to being the one doing the chasing. Amy is giving me a run for my money, though, and I’m enjoying every moment of it. Once she finally decides to take the leap, though, my family–specifically in the form of my estranged mother–interrupts our progress. My mother’s desperation to get her own way threatens not only my relationship with the most perfect woman for me, but my entire livelihood.

Can we walk the tightrope to ensure we survive with our integrity, jobs, and lives intact?

I'll Look After You

ALICIA: Life has thrown me plenty of curveballs, but I was unprepared for my boss to tell me that my job is not only in jeopardy, but my hours have to be slashed so drastically, I can no longer afford my rent. Add in the mysterious and creepy letters that keep showing up in my mailbox, each one with a slightly more ominous tone, and your girl is barely hanging on. So when Warner James, the attractive outfielder for the Chicago Foxes and teammate to my best friend’s fiancé, offers to let me stay at his place, I’m in no position to turn him down. And when the letters keep coming, and we hatch a plan to fake date so my stalker finally gets the hint that I’m unavailable, I feel like things are finally clicking into place. Until I can’t stop looking at my roommate like that. And our fake little touches seem to turn into something more…

WARNER: I admit that I’ve been known to get around. I treat women well and my reputation of never being seen with the same woman twice is honestly deserved. My focus is baseball and hardly anything else at this stage of my life–relationships can come after I retire. Still, my new roommate needs help and I’m all too happy to provide it. I suddenly feel useful off the field. I don’t mind pretending for the cameras if it ensures Alicia’s safety. And who cares if it makes me feel warm inside when she smiles at me…or when our gazes catch and linger a little longer than necessary. I’m just here to help a friend, and this will all be over soon.

The Way You Say Good Morning

DELANEY: My life was just fine before Samuel “Benny” Benjamin forced his way in. No stranger to heartache myself, I keep my interactions with the opposite sex to the hit-it-and-quit-it variety. Instead, the universe keeps throwing us together. And sure, I’ll take the free dinners he keeps offering me, and the company he keeps me while visiting me at work, and the way he looks at me when he thinks I’m not paying attention, and the irresistible and fun banter between us, but we aren’t falling in love. And there definitely isn’t a long-term future for us.

BENNY: The pressure on me this season is unlike any I’ve ever experienced. After failing to lead my team to the World Series–yet again–I’m dreading what a new season will bring. It’s hard enough being a team manager and a single dad away from your kids, but add in the pressure of an entire city on your shoulders? It’s enough to bring a man to his knees. In what I thought was an attempt to release some tension, I hooked up with a bartender at Warner James’s audiobook launch. What I didn’t know was how the universe was going to keep throwing us together, or just how many sparks would fly even after our initial meeting. Now, the universe might not be the only thing bringing me to my knees.

Reckless Behavior

JUNE: I work hard and love hard, so sue me. Few things in my life have gone according to my plan lately. It’s bad enough that I had to leave what I thought was my dream job when the company suddenly folded, necessitating a move back in with my parents. When my professional baseball player brother hooks me up with a job in Chicago working for the team there, there’s finally a ray of hope in the shambles that have become my life. My brother even arranges my housing for me. There’s just one small problem: I have to live with my brother’s best friend, who may or may not be my childhood crush and the boy who gave me my first kiss, only to immediately break my heart after.

All I have to do is make it through the season. With one season under my belt, I’ll have enough experience and money saved up to venture out on my own, until my new roommate suddenly has ideas of his own.

ASHER: It’s my first full season as the starting pitcher for the Chicago Foxes and I’m finally settling into a groove. I’ve got friends, my team is doing well, and I’m pitching the best I ever have in my life. So when I finally decide I can relax enough to focus on my love life (or lack thereof), I dip my toes in the dating pool only to discover complete humiliation. Apparently, my nerves surrounding the extracurricular activities after I take my date home translate into a fumbling, awkward mess, leaving all parties dissatisfied. In a desperate attempt to regain control of the narrative spreading throughout the city that I’m bad in bed, I agree to allow my roommate to give me lessons, as long as her brother never finds out.

Because what her overprotective brother and my best friend can’t know–ever–is that I’ve been in love with June Demoranville since I was a teenager. I’ve kept her at a distance since then, and that’s where she will remain. Forever.

Come celebrate the debut of her newest release, meet Meghan French (a famously faceless author), and get your books signed!
